Why is it important to remember 9/11?
The day serves as a reminder of the resilience of our nation and the courage of those who fought to defend it.
We honor the heroes who rushed into harm's way to save the lives of others, and we recommit ourselves to the values that make this country great – democracy, freedom, and justice.
The September 11 attacks, commonly known as 9/11, were four coordinated Islamist terrorist suicide attacks carried out by al-Qaeda against the United States in 2001.
On that morning, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners scheduled to travel from the East Coast to California.
These terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people and injured more than 6,000 others in the worst attack against the homeland in our nation's history.
The response of firefighters and EMS personnel to the World Trade Center on September 11 was unprecedented in scale and scope.
More than 200 Fire units responded, approximately half of all units in the city. More than 100 ambulances in the emergency services system responded to about 30 percent of the total available.
Our nation pulled together to help those affected by 9/11 get back up again. The effort was fearless and fierce, and we are forever grateful to all those who sacrificed because of these attacks.
Today. Still.
Never forget.
Always in our hearts.
God bless. 🫶🫠❤️
